Seit 2008 organisiert der Kulturverein Klangfolger das Klangfestival in Gallneukirchen bei Linz/Oberösterreich. Hinter dem Kulturverein Klangfolger steht ein breit aufgestelltes Expert:innen-Team aus den Bereichen Kulturmanagement, Musik, Film, Theaer, Literatur, Bildende Kunst, Architektur und Design.

Die diverse Ausrichtung des Vereines zeigt sich wunderbar in einer spartenübergreifenden und innovativ-experimentellen Programmierung. Zeitgenössische Musik wird mit spannend frequentierten Strömungen wie Literatur, Theater, Performance, Bildende Kunst & Gesellschaftsdiskurs verknüpft.

In der Festivalhistorie finden sich Künstler*innen wie Stefanie Sargnagel, Lydia Haider, Stefan Fraunberger, Peter Kutin, Katharina Ernst, Maja Osojnik, Jung An Tagen, Kazuhisha Uchihashi, OvO, Ken Vandermark,
Christof Kurzmann, Didi Kern, Fauna, B.Fleischmann, Martin Löcker, Barbara Anna, Husar, Susanna Gartmayer, Fuckhead, Rojin Sharafi, Gabbeh, Judith Schwarz, Blacks’ Myths, Bipolar Feminin uvm.

Das Klangfestival wuchs zu einem fixen Bestandteil der zeitgenössischen Kulturlandschaft in Österreich. Was einst als Geheimtipp (Der Standard) begann, die Entwicklung zahlreicher heute namhafter Künstler*innen mitzeichnete, repräsentiert heute
deutlicher denn je das aktuelle künstlerisch-kulturelle Zeitgeschehen - lokal und international.

Seit 2016 nähert sich der Verein zusätzlich dem Thema Leerstand, also  leerstehende Gebäude im Gallneukirchner Zentrum und darüber hinaus. Das erste Zwischennutzungsprojekt - Klangfolger #AlteNähstube - wurde vom Land Oberösterreich mit dem Vereinspreis 2017 ausgezeichnet. Inhaltlich setzte sich in der Alten Nähstube der zeitgenössisch-experimentelle Ansatz fort. Neben bekann-
ten Musiker*innen wie ŽEN, Herbst, PYG, Tumido, Gigi Gratt, Le Quan Ninh oder Motherdrum fanden dort regelmäßig Ausstellungen, Performances, Lesungen und Lectures statt.

Ergänzend zum Klangfestival und zur kulturellen Leerstandsnutzung zählen überregionale Kooperationen mit vernetzten Kulturinitiativen, Kurator*innen und Festivals (Ars Electronica Festival, KAPU Linz, Holy Hydra, Schlachthof Wels, Gallnsteine Gallneukirchen etc.). Weiters publizieren wir einmal im Jahr ein Magazin (Zine) und entwickeln ein Klangfestival-Computerspiel (Klangfenigma).

2018 wurde die ehemalige Feuerwehrhalle in Gallneukirchen erstmals vom Kulturverein  Klangfolger für ein 3tägiges Festival adaptiert. Mittlerweile ist das Gebäude als Alte Feuerwehrhalle eine fixe Location der regionalen Kulturszene.

2022 wurde erstmals das Alte Hallenbad - ein weiterer, spannender Leerstand im Gallneukirchner Stadtzentrum - im Zuge des Klangfestivals bespielt. Der Verein sieht im Alten Hallenbad ein großes Potenzial für ein langfristiges Kulturzentrum für die regionale Kunst- und Kulturtätigen.

2023 soll die Location Altes Hallenbad als Hauptlocation für das Klangfestival dienen, das in Kooperation mit dem Festival der Regionen am 30. Juni und 1. Juli stattfindet.

Since 2008, the cultural association Klangfolger has been organizing the Klangfestival in Gallneukirchen near Linz, Upper Austria. The Klangfolger cultural association is backed by a diverse team of experts in the fields of cultural management, music, film, theater, literature, fine arts, architecture, and design.

The association's diverse orientation is beautifully reflected in its interdisciplinary and innovative-experimental programming. Contemporary music is combined with exciting trends such as literature, theater, performance, visual arts, and social discourse.

The festival's history features artists such as Stefanie Sargnagel, Lydia Haider, Stefan Fraunberger, Peter Kutin, Katharina Ernst, Maja Osojnik, Jung An Tagen, Kazuhisha Uchihashi, OvO, Ken Vandermark, Christof Kurzmann, Didi Kern, Fauna, B.Fleischmann, Martin Löcker, Barbara Anna, Husar, Susanna Gartmayer, Fuckhead, Rojin Sharafi, Gabbeh, Judith Schwarz, Blacks' Myths, Bipolar Feminine, and many more.

The Klangfestival has become a permanent fixture in Austria's contemporary cultural landscape. What began as a insider tip (Der Standard) has marked the development of numerous now-renowned artists and today more than ever represents the current artistic-cultural zeitgeist - both locally and internationally.

Since 2016, the association has also been addressing the issue of vacancies, i.e. vacant buildings in the center of Gallneukirchen and beyond. The first interim use project - Klangfolger #AlteNähstube - was awarded the State of Upper Austria Association Award in 2017. In terms of content, the contemporary-experimental approach continued in the Alte Nähstube. In addition to well-known musicians such as ŽEN, Herbst, PYG, Tumido, Gigi Gratt, Le Quan Ninh, or Motherdrum, regular exhibitions, performances, readings, and lectures also took place there.

In addition to the Klangfestival and cultural vacancy utilization, there are also supra-regional collaborations with networked cultural initiatives, curators, and festivals (Ars Electronica Festival, KAPU Linz, Holy Hydra, Schlachthof Wels, Gallnsteine Gallneukirchen, etc.). We also publish a magazine (zine) once a year and develop a Klangfestival computer game (Klangfenigma).

In 2018, the former fire station in Gallneukirchen was adapted for a 3-day festival by the Klangfolger cultural association for the first time. Meanwhile, the building has become a permanent location for the regional cultural scene known as the Alte Feuerwehrhalle.

In 2022, the Old Swimming Pool, another exciting vacancy in Gallneukirchen's city center, was used as part of the Klangfestival. The association sees great potential for the Old Swimming Pool as a long-term cultural center for regional arts and culture practitioners.

In 2023, the Old Swimming Pool location will serve as the main venue for the Klangfestival, which takes place in cooperation with the Festival of the Regions on June 30 and July 1.
