The idea is to deconstruct the interior of the pool in the Altes Hallenbad by installing thee semitransparent screens layered one by one and projecting abstract live generated visuals on layers of gauze. The Installation is transforming the way how the viewer perceives the space of the pool. The visuals are live generated by interaction of sound signal and algorithm of the code. The spatial composition of semitransparent layers as screens for live generated visuals is an exclusive production for the abandoned indoor pool at Gallneukirchen with its premiere at the KLANGfestival 2023.
Svitlana Zhytnia (artistic name Zhi-Zhi) was born in 1985 in Chisinau, Moldova. She moved to Kharkiv, Ukraine to study at the State Academy of Arts and Design. Graduated in 2007 with a bachelor of spatial design and textiles.
During her studies at the Academy Zhi-Zhi started exploring the art of theater performance and stage design. Developed stage and costume concepts for students' diploma works and later started using video projection and live improvisation as part of the performance. After academy studies, she took several courses on creative coding with Touchdesigner, projection mapping, and on working with Kinect sensors for interactive installations.
Her artistic approach is based on digital media art and creative coding practices. She creates live-generated visuals for projections by composing algorithms of code where the audio signal or different sensor data are influencing forms and colors, bringing live dynamics and improvisation elements to the projection. By using interactive media the artist explores possibilities of visual perception of space in connection with signals from the audience, from musical instruments, and other data taken by sensors.
During the last 6 years, Zhi-Zhi took part in theater projects in Ukraine and in Austria. - Nobody died today, Theater im Bahnhof, Graz.
- Unbeugsamen Cherson, Theater am Lend, Graz.
- P.A.N.Ter, multimedia theater performance, Kyiv, Kharkiv.
- Alice in Wonderland, music theater performance. Kharkiv.
Collaborated with sound artists and composers to create immersive audio-visual experiences.
- To the Living. AV live performance. Mapping festival. Geneva.
- The Prince Albert band. Installation - The Cube for music live show. Kharkiv. - No signal. Experimental live AV performance. Kharkiv.
Performed live at festivals and events in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Geneva, Rome, Vienna, Graz, and Corinthia.
Due to the war in Ukraine, Zhi Zhi moved to Austria in march 2022 and now is located in Graz.
